Challenge-Based Innovation isn’t just a methodology – it’s a mindset. One that brings together different worlds to tackle complex healthcare problems with creativity, empathy, and a deep understanding of real needs.

Last week we proudly celebrated the DemoDay of the 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 “𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝟮𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻”, a unique program developed in collaboration with Clalit Health Services and Carmel Medical center, and built on the principles of Challenge-Based Innovation – turning real healthcare challenges into practical, impactful solutions.
Graduate students from the University of Haifa teamed up with medical professionals from Clalit Health Services and Carmel Medical center, working together in interdisciplinary teams to address critical needs from the field.

Over the course of the program, the teams developed innovative responses to challenges submitted by healthcare leaders, and at the Demo Day they presented four promising ventures:

  • Preventing Falls Among Older Adults
Encouraging the use of assistive mobility devices to reduce injury risk, maintain independence, and improve quality of life.
  •  Fast Transfer of Critical Lab Results
Improving communication between hospital labs and clinical staff to reduce delays and ensure timely, secure patient care.
  • Work-Life Balance for Early-Career Nurses
Addressing burnout and retention by designing supportive solutions for nurses in their first years of practice.
  • Reducing No-Show Appointments
Developing smart solutions to reduce missed appointments – a major challenge with clinical, operational, and financial implications.

We had the honor of hosting a professional respondent panel, who provided thoughtful feedback and actionable insights after each presentation – greatly contributing to the ventures’ ongoing development.
Special thanks to Prof. Ofer Arazy, Dr. Michael Hauzer, Heli Rostoker and Boris Giladi.
